But the private legal practitioner and NDC communicator, Edudzi Tamekloe, in a counter-post, criticised the Akufo-Addo government for the decsion as it “demonised” former President John Mahama for procuring the power plants for the country in 2015.

“Between 2013 and 2015, visionary leader, John Dramani Mahama, in his desire to end dumsor [erratic power supply], brought the Ameri Power Plants, comprising 10 units, each with the capacity to generate 25 megawatts of electricity.”

He highlighted former President Mahama’s significant role in securing the power plants during his administration in an attempt to ease the nation’s electricity issue.

Mr. Tamekloe stated that the renaming of the power plant is a “deliberate ploy to deceive Ghanaians,” particularly those residing in the Ashanti Region, where the plant is located.

“Akufo Addo and BAWUMIA decided to demonise John Mahama for this game-changer emergency power deployment.

“The Akufo Addo and BAWUMIA administration decided to relocate 6 units out of the 10 to Ashanti Region to generate 150 megawatts of electricity for the middle belt of the country. The remaining four deployed to give T3 additional 100 megawatts.”
