Award-winning Gospel singer, Perez Musik has said he will barely contest or challenge the Ghana Music Awards board over nominations for certain categories.

Unlike other artistes who feel they deserve nominations for particular categories and would demand a review, Perez noted he is not interested in such activity.

The ‘Blema Tesa’ hit maker explained that as a gospel singer, his priority is more aligned with winning and transforming souls rather than focusing on awards.

Speaking to Cookie Tee on TV3’s New Day, Perez believes the onus lies in the blossom of the board to nominate an artiste for a particular category “as its their skill”.

“I did my submission if they feel like I deserve or I don’t, its their decision. There’s no need to challenge my nominations.

“My main focus is not to win an award. First of all. I’m a gospel singer, I am called to win souls so that’s my priority so If the souls are being transformed, it is more satisfying for me. These awards are just add-ons because it will open some doors for me,” he said on April 19.

TGMA 2024: Check out full list of nominees for various categories

Perez has currently been nominated in three categories for this year’s Ghana Music Awards.

He has been listed in the Best Male Vocal performance, Songwriter of the year and Gospel artiste of the year categories although he applied for other nominations.

According to him, he is not worried about earning three categories out of the many he applied for.

“Yes, there are categories that you feel you should be there but if they sit down and realize that you did and think you only deserve two nominations [I won’t contest at all],” he added.

Perez was reacting to the matter between Amerado and the TGMA board over the non-nomination of the original version of‘Kweku Ananse’ song.

Amerado had petitioned the board to consider nominating the original version of his ‘Kweku Ananse’ song for the most popular song of the year category.

The artiste was not satisfied when the board omitted the original version of the song and rather nominated a remix version for the Highlife song of the year.

Subsequently, the TGMA Board addressed the matter and included the song in the most popular song of the year category.
