Akufo-Addo didn’t order the overlord of Gonjaland to rise and greet him – Ahiagbah tells Mahama

The Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has said that it is not true that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo ordered the overlord of Gonjaland to rise and greet him.

He says videos making rounds suggesting that Mr Akufo-Addo ordered the traditional ruler to rise and greet him have been doctored.

Mr. Ahiagbah said these when responding to the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), former President John Dramani Mahama who had criticized President Akufo-Addo for allegedly asking the chief to rise before greeting him.

“Your Excellency John Dramani Mahama, Sir, you have been misled to fall for this base propaganda. It is not true that President Akufo-Addo ordered the overlord of Gonjaland to rise and greet him unless you are watching the doctored video by the NDC.

“I know by now you have been appropriately briefed; it is not too late to delete this post. Good evening, Sir.” Ahiagbah wrote on his X platform.

Mr Mahama while criticizing President Akufo-Addo said in a Facebook post “The almost eight years of Nana Addo/Bawumia have done extensive damage to our democracy. As the clock ticks towards the end of his mandate, the President’s attitude and utterances give much cause for concern.

“His recent insistence that chiefs stand up to greet him should be a matter of serious consternation for political watchers.

“He also recently stated that he cannot be succeeded by somebody he has defeated in previous elections. This connotes an arrogant nature and smacks an inherently anti-democratic personality, undermining the fundamental principle of the peaceful transition of power.”
