NPP parliamentary candidate for the Adentan Constituency reiterates government’s commitment to resolving ‘Dumsor’

The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the Adentan Constituency Akosua Manu, has reiterated the assurance given by the Deputy Minister of Energy, Herbert Krapa that the recent power outages, commonly referred to as ‘Dumsor’ will be over soon.

Speaking to Johnnie Hughes on the 3FM Sunrise Morning Show, she elucidated on the efforts made by different administrations to address power challenges in Ghana.

She emphasized the importance of effective power management, noting that the issue of ‘Dumsor’ extends beyond mere capacity problems to encompass the ability to sustainably provide and afford electricity.

“The beauty of it is that you can actually testify that in 7years, the power has stayed on. The conversation about Dumsor was never about capacity, but the ability to pay for the power, and we kept it on for 7 years”, she asserted.

Referencing recent statements made by Deputy Energy Minister Herbert Kwapa, Manu reassured the public that measures are being taken to address any looming energy challenges.

Electricity supply challenges would be over in the next few days – Deputy Energy Minister

“Last night I watched one of your colleagues address the issue and narrated the conversation he had with the deputy minister of energy Herbert Krapa and according to him, in 10 days, whatever issue we are facing right now will be put to an end” she stated.

Addressing the recent tensions between the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCO), Manu emphasized the importance of cooperation between the two entities. “Some of the challenges that were experienced, the back and forth, I think GRIDCO has a lot of explanation to do because as far as I’m concerned with a little energy economics I know, ECG distributes the power, GRIDCO supplies it,” she explained.

Manu concluded by reiterating the government’s commitment to resolving the power challenges and expressed optimism in the Deputy Minister of Energy’s assurance that the issue would be resolved within 10 days.

“So we as a government certainly understand the challenges. So, the best answer or the best news I’ve heard that was last night the deputy minister says that in 10 days is going to end,” she stated.
