Presidential Advisor on Health urges continued caution as COVID-19 lingers in Ghana

Presidential Advisor on Health, Dr. Anthony Nsiah Asare has emphasized the resurgence of COVID-19 in Ghana, urging the public to maintain vigilance in personal hygiene practices.

Despite a decline in hospital admissions, Dr. Asare revealed that 12 samples tested at Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research confirmed the virus’s presence.

He stressed the importance of wearing masks and frequent handwashing to prevent transmission.

Dr. Asare made the remarks during an interview on Onua FM’s Yen Nsempa program, highlighting the growing concern over community spread of the virus.

Over the past week, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has reported 31 new cases of COVID-19 in the country.

“In the past week or so, we were recording some significant numbers up to about 30 or 31 or so. But this is not unexpected. As we have already been saying, COVID has come to stay with us.”

“It is part of us. And so from time to time and that is why we also haven’t given up on vaccination and so if you are aware, from 5th to 9th May, we are going to do another exercise of COVID vaccination.

“So we are doing the national COVID-19 vaccination exercise as part of our strategies to reduce COVID to the barest minimum,” he said.

He advised the general public to go for extra vaccination to stay strong and avoid contacting the virus.
