Owner of Tamale-based hotel adjudged young CEO in Africa’s hospitality industry

The Chief Executive Officer of My Time Group of Companies, Alhassan Karim, has been adjudged the young CEO in the hospitality industry in Africa at the African Outstanding Professionals Awards held in Tanzania.

My Time Hotel in Tamale, which he owns was also awarded Most Outstanding in Accommodation Experience award.

Alhassan Karim is a young man who grew up in Tamale. He was selected from among other entrepreneurs in Africa to receive the awards for outstanding achievements in their areas of operation.

The awards ceremony which took place on April 23, 2024 saw outstanding achievers take awards for their contributions towards development of their respective fields.

The African Outstanding Professionals Award, now in its third year, recognizes individuals across the continent who have demonstrated exceptional performance, capabilities, and achievements in their respective sectors.

The organizers selected Alhassan Karim for the award, having recognised his inspirational contribution to the hospitality industry from Tamale in the Northern region of Ghana.

In an interview with 3News.com, Mr. Karim expressed gratitude to the people of Tamale for their prayer and support.

He said, though more opportunities exist in the hospitality industry, the lack of skilled labour is impacting negatively on hotel business.

“As hotels and sites are created for the hospitality industry, the only people you can employ are inexperienced in customer service or issues that come up. The Hospitality businesses in the north is slow because most of the people in the north have a different mindset about lodging in a hotel and only few people patronize hotels,” he explained.

He admonished the youth to take advantage of the opportunities in the hospitality industry to create self-employment opportunities for themselves.

“When you go out there on the streets of Tamale you will see a host of young men and women idling about waiting for manner to fall from heaven which will never happen.

They feel working in a hotel is not lucrative, but I tell you with skilled and experienced hands, hotel jobs are the best to find,” he said.
