National Covid-19 vaccination campaign: Over 370k doses of vaccines administered so far

More people have so far turned out to receive their Covid-19 booster jabs in the ongoing nationwide vaccination campaign despite perceived hesitancy among the populace.

By close of day four, more than three hundred and seventy thousand (370,000) doses of the vaccine have been administered.

The vaccination has been for first timers and many who had booster jabs.

Officials of the Ghana Health Service led by the Director-General, Dr. Patrick Kuma Aboagye toured some vaccination sites in the Ga East municipality.

The tour was to ensure the Child Health Promotion Week as well as the Covid-19 and African Vaccination Week campaigns are being properly observed.

According to him, the exercise has been generally impressive.

“People have needs, especially with access and so there is need for us to bring the services close to them. As at the end of day 4, we have had over 370,000 doses administered, more than 50% of the target we set for ourselves for the five-day exercise and its quite encouraging. And we know that if all things go well like that, and the usual you know Ghanaian’s towards the end rush, there’s going to be a surge. We are looking at exceeding our target,” Dr Aboagye said.

He further noted that a few gaps including the need for more centers at some areas were identified during the visit to the centers, thus moving forward, they will be factored into planning.

Isaac Elorm is one of the residents who took his booster jab. He told 3news’ team that he will do anything to be protected despite concerns among the populace regarding the potency of the vaccine.

He said, “this is about health, and we don’t just have to be talking. Because when the Covid came, people were dying but when they brought the vaccine, we all saw that the number of people dying were reducing. So, we can all attribute that to the fact that the vaccines are working.”

Meanwhile, mothers had thronged the Abokobi health centre as well as the church of Pentecost static point at Agbogba to get their children vaccinated against childhood diseases when the team got to the location.
