Parliamentary Candidate for Bosome-Freho, Nana Kwame Asafo Adjei Ayeh says the rampant illegal mining activities in his constituency are wreaking havoc, jeopardizing the safety of its youth and endangering educational pursuits.
The parliamentary candidate painted a grim picture of the proximity of illegal mining sites, commonly known as “galamsey” to educational institutions, highlighting the stark reality faced by students who study amidst such environmental degradation.
“When I show you a galamsey site, just a few hundred meters from the galamsey site, is a school with students who study, you will cry,” Ayeh remarked, underscoring the urgent need for intervention.
Ayeh expressed deep concern over its detrimental effects emphasizing that apart from posing risks to the lives of young people, it has also led to the pollution of water bodies and has invoked the ire of community deities.
Speaking with Nana Yaa Brefo and Isaac Ekow JB on Yen Nsempa, Onua FM, he lamented the lack of tangible benefits accruing to the community from these illicit activities, exacerbating the already dire situation.
Ayeh, cognizant of his role as the people’s representative, pledged to prioritize addressing the pressing issues plaguing Bosome-Freho. He revealed plans to collaborate with relevant authorities and stakeholders to tackle illegal mining activities and mitigate their adverse effects on the community.
“I am currently working on an outreach project to engage chiefs, illegal miners, and other stakeholders to address the issues,” Ayeh disclosed, demonstrating his proactive approach to finding solutions.
Furthermore, Ayeh stressed his commitment to improving infrastructure in Bosome-Freho, particularly focusing on the construction of roads—a pressing need articulated by the community members themselves.
“If you ask the people of Bosome-Freho what they need, they will say roads,” Ayeh affirmed, acknowledging the paramount importance of road infrastructure in enhancing the socio-economic development of the area.
Ayeh appealed for divine guidance and strength to fulfil the expectations of the Bosome-Freho community, reiterating his determination to serve diligently.
“I pray to God to give me strength so that the belief that the people of Bosome-Freho have in me I’ll be able to serve them,” Ayeh expressed, echoing his unwavering commitment to effecting positive change.
