Government calls for vigilance as COVID-19 cases rise

In an exclusive interview with 3news, the presidential advisor on health provided insights into the government’s response to the recent surge in COVID cases, emphasizing the need for continued vigilance despite a declaration that COVID is no longer considered an epidemic of public health importance.

The advisor highlighted that although COVID cases have declined significantly since the peak of the pandemic, the virus has not disappeared entirely. With a recent upsurge in cases observed, particularly in certain regions, it is evident that COVID remains a persistent challenge that requires ongoing attention.

“We have not seen the end of COVID,” the advisor stated. “It has become a part of our daily lives, much like the flu or malaria. We must remain vigilant and continue to take preventive measures to protect ourselves and others.”

The government’s strategy revolves around education and proactive measures to mitigate the spread of the virus. Health professionals across the country are equipped with the knowledge and resources to diagnose, prevent, and manage COVID cases effectively.

PCR machines are now available nationwide, facilitating widespread testing without the need for extensive travel. Vaccination centers have been established to provide free vaccines to the public, with an emphasis on vaccinating those who have not yet received the vaccine.

As the rainy season approaches, there is concern that cold temperatures may exacerbate the spread of COVID. The public is urged to remain cautious, especially around vulnerable individuals such as the elderly and those with underlying health conditions.

“We cannot afford to be complacent,” the advisor cautioned. “COVID is still a threat, and we must all do our part to prevent its spread. This includes wearing masks, practicing proper hygiene, and getting vaccinated.”

Despite the challenges, the advisor noted that there have been no reported COVID-related deaths in the country since 2020, a testament to the effectiveness of containment efforts. However, the public is reminded that COVID remains a present risk that requires collective effort to overcome.
