Lady Julia narrates how she first met Otumfuo and was invited for dinner same day

Lady Julia Osei Tutu, spouse of Otumfuo Nana Osei Tutu II has shared a charming story of how she first met her husband in Kumasi.

According to Lady Julia, their paths first crossed when she had travelled to Kumasi while serving as Ecobank Ghana’s Legal and Corporate Affairs Officer.

That serendipitous moment happened during the inauguration of the first Ecobank branch in Kumasi, when Lady Julia gave a classy vote of thanks.

After the ceremony, the King complimented her on her flawless delivery, which resulted in a contact information exchange.

Lady Juila recalled that later in the evening of that same day, her then managing director invited her for lunch at Otumfuo’s residence which unbeknownst to her was an audition for a lifelong partnership.

“At the end of the event, even though it had started to rain, he refused to leave despite the prompting of his courtiers. He made sure he found out who I was and how to get in touch with me before leaving the event grounds.

“That evening, I was summoned to dinner by my managing director, the late John Ackah at Otumfuo’s residence. Little did I know that I was auditioning for the role of a lifetime.

“And here we are 22 wonderful years later and many beautiful children and grandchildren, nieces, nephews and an amazing extended family,” Lady Julia fondly reminisced.

Lady Julia narrated these fond memories during a lavish dinner which was organized to celebrate Otumfuo Nana Osei Tutu II’s 74th birthday on May 6.

During these moment, Lady Julia also enthralled the audience with a touching love letter to her husband.

“Dearest, these years have truly been extraordinary, and each day I marvel at the life you’ve gifted me. You’ve surpassed all my dreams and expectations.”

 Held at the Jubilee Hall, the special gathering brought together dignitaries , royal family members, and distinguished visitors commemorating the happy occasion with hospitality and friendship.

Asantehene Osei Tutu II, born Nana Barima Kwaku Duah, ascended to the throne as the 16th Asantehene in April 1999, succeeding his uncle, Otumfuo Opoku Ware II.

He ascended the throne at age 49. A relatively young age among all Asantehenes. Into the 25th year of his reign, that adds up to 74. His Majesty the King of Ashanti (Asantehene), Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is now firmly a septuagenarian.
