I was exposed to different kind of audience after Castro’s feature – Kinaata explains his switch from rap music

Award-winning highlife musician, Kofi Kinaata has explained why he suddenly decided to switch from rap music despite beginning his career with this style.

Kinaata noted that his feature with the late musician Castro exposed him to a different kind of audience which prompted him to change from a rapper to a singer.

The ‘Susuka’ hitmaker said after the ‘Odo Pa’ song which the late Castro featured him together with Asamoah Gyan, he realized the singing was being accepted faster than his rap music, hence his decision to switch.

Kinaata said he was convinced to produce songs that would be best appreciated by the corporate audience he had been exposed to.

“After featuring Castro, I was exposed to certain kind of corporate audience and I needed to also craft something for them which they loved.

“It’s Fante rap and people did not really understand the language so you have to get some melodies and my first singing also attracted more attention, people loved it and it was moving faster than the rap music,” he explained on 3FM’s Drive on Tuesday.

Kofi Kinaata discloses inspiration for his yet to release EP

According to him, his switch is not about his love for money as it’s the perception.

“No, it is not about money. Even the street guys and my fans are still aware that is my music that is guiding their life,” he added.

Kinaata will release his EP dubbed “Kofi OO Kofi” between May 3 – May 10 after a decade long in the music industry.

The EP  was earlier scheduled to be released on his birthday, April 15 but did not manifest as planned.

Speaking on 3FM Drive, the “Efiekuma Broken Heart” crooner revealed that the title of the EP was inspired by his fans.

“The direction is a lot, childhood stories, life lessons, hardship, partying and the art of not giving a fuck. Aside Efiekuma Broken Heart, there are also a lot of life stories” he said on Tuesday, April 23.
