Some people have blacklisted me in the industry, they don’t show me love – Lord Paper

Ghanaian Afrobeats musician, Michael Takyi-Frimpong known by stage name, Lord Paper has said he is still dealing with the consequences of an explicit sex scene in his music video which was shot nine years ago.

Recall that in 2016, a music video for the song ‘Ewurama’ by the then up-and-coming Lord Paper was released, featuring an explicit sex scene.

The music video generated controversy in the country, with many condemning the direction that the video went.

Nine years on, Lord Paper has disclosed that he is still bearing the brunt of his actions despite apologising to the industry and taking a cue from the backlashes he faced.

Speaking in an interview with Accra-based Metro TV, Lord Paper bemoaned that he has been blacklisted in some media houses and denied access to promote his songs.

The artiste emphasised that although other media houses have granted him access and interviews to promote his song, he feels the industry is not supporting his career.

“The industry doesn’t love and show me love. I feel like if the project is very good, I don’t have to be in your faces. The industry as a whole. I won’t say everybody because some people are showing me love.

“The reason why I am saying this is because I have been to places where I am going to promote my music and they won’t let me in and I have been to places where later I become friends with some of the people who work there and they tell me that in this place you have been blacklisted and that they don’t want us to play your songs,” he said.

While wondering if the ‘hate’ could be due to his 2016 controversy, Lord Paper emphatically said it “makes no sense and unfair” to him if the explicit sex scene in his 2016 music video is the reason for the blacklist.

According to him, he has subsequently apologised for his actions, learnt from his mistakes and made good music to demonstrate remorse for his actions, hence, it would be unnecessary to judge him for his 2016 actions.

“I have no idea, I don’t know if its still because of the video and if it’s that I feel like it’s not fair in the sense that I was criticised in all manner.

“I went home, did my homework and dropped a lot of songs and some of them made a lot of sense and so from there do you still have to use that thing to judge me, it makes no sense,” he added.
